Clean Carpeting

Using the Extraction Method (hot or cold water)

Many professionals believe that the extraction method of carpet cleaning is the best, most thorough method of removing soils from carpeting. Soil from deep in the carpet pile is lifted and cleaned, similar to the way clothes are cleaned in a washing machine. Drying time is usually a few hours, depending on how many wand passes you make, the temperature, humidity levels, and what machines you use.

Below are the items and technique necessary to conduct a carpet extraction. Recommended items are in parenthesis.

 Items Needed
Equipment Needed
Vacuum Cleaner (E-SC679J)
Carpet Extraction Machine (COM-9020)

Elky Pro® Spot/Stain Remover (SA-100)
Elky Pro® XL Detergent (SA-703)
FabPro Carpet and Fabric Rinse (FAB-031)

Carpet brush (COM-103001)
Carpet squares (SA-80)
Optional Equipment

Elky Pro® Liquid Deodorant, Cherry (ID-122)

STEP 1
Clear the room of as many objects as possible. It is OK to leave unmoveable items in the room, just be cautious of them during the extraction process. Make sure to note where the furniture is so that the room can be returned to its pre-cleaning arrangement

STEP 2
Vacuum the floor thoroughly. Removing surface soils before extraction will produce better final results.

STEP 3
Eliminate stains before extraction. Be sure to test an inconspicious area of the carpet for color fastness.

Saturate the stain with Elky Pro Stain Remover and work the stain over with a carpet brush or cotton rag, starting on the outside and working your way to the middle. For best results, remove stains immediately after they occur.

STEP 4
For heavy soiled areas only, apply a pre-spray/traffic lane cleaner. Spray Elky Pro Assault using a pressure sprayer over the heavy soil. Work in the chemical using a carpet rake and allow it to soak for 10 to 20 minutes.

STEP 5
Prepare the carpet extractor by loading it with hot water and the Elky Pro XL detergent. This detergent is recommended because it is a great cleaning product that includes a defoamer and a deodorant. For a more pleasant scent, try our Elky Pro water soluble liquid deodorants.

STEP 6
Using the carpet wand, make lawnmower-style passes on the carpet, pulling the wand backwards while laying down detergent. This will allow you to lift the water moments after it is applied to the carpet.

Some areas will require multiple passes, To work out deep soils, turn off the solution dispenser and move the wand back and forth over the carpet. Resume the extraction.

STEP 7
If there is heavy saturation of the extraction detergent, repeat step 5 using the Fabpro fabric rinse. This will prevent your carpet from forming mildew and will help in the removal of excessive detergent from your carpet.

STEP 8
Make a dry pass (no solution) with the wand to suck up excess water. The carpet should be damp to the touch, but not wet. If the carpet is still wet, make another dry pass.

STEP 9
Allow the carpet to dry overnight. For a much shorter drying time, use an Elky Pro Carpet Dryer. Rake the carpet again for a consistent, clean looking carpet pile.

STEP 10
Return the furniture to its original position. If the carpet has any dampness, use carpet squares under the furniture to eliminate the possibility of browning or other carpet damage.
