Applying
Finish to Wood floors |
| |
Using the Auto-Scrubber
Method (moderate finish buildup/some pealing/ heavily
soiled and marked) |
| |
|
| |
Most wood floors can be brought back to
a like-new condition with a deep scrub and recoat process,
eliminating the difficult and time consuming tasks of
sanding, re-striping, and applying multiple coats of seal
and finish. On floors with moderate finish buildup, some
peeling, and/or a heavily soiled or marked surface, the
following Auto-scrubber method will be ideal.
| |
|
|
STEP 1
Tape off all entrances with caution tape.
|
STEP 2
Be sure to shake or pull any loose fibers
from applicator. |

 |
| |
|
STEP 3
Fill Applicator pad with finish. |
STEP 4
Start in the corner of the floor and make
a 15- to 20 ft. pass down to the end wall,
turn and pull applicator back toward corner
(see right) |
| |
|
STEP 5
Then make your first pass down the length
of the gym to the opposite corner. Turn 90º
and make a 15 to 20 ft. pass down the end
wall. This is done so all turns are made in
the wet edges. (see right) |
STEP 6
Now overlap 4 to 6 inches during each full
length pass. Be sure to angle the applicator
so the finish runs off to the unfinished side
of the floor. Do not allow a puddle of finish
to form. |
| |
|
STEP 7
Move at a slow walk and be sure to keep moving
while finish is being applied. Do not lift
the applicator from the floor unless absolutely
necessary as this may cause bubbles. |
STEP 8
Use caution on turns to eliminate puddles
and missed areas. |
| |
|
STEP 9
To refill the applicator, move it to an unfinished
area. A slight amount of finish could flow
from the applicator and should not come in
contact with a previously finished area.
|
STEP 10
After the first coat is applied, allow 60
to 90 minutes of dry time before recoating.
Apply a maximum of 2 to 3 coats within 24
hours. |
| |
|
STEP 11
Be sure to wash and rinse the applicator head
or tightly wrap it in a plastic bag while
waiting for the first or second coat to dry.
This will keep the finish from clotting and
causing streaking during the recoat. |
STEP 12
When the final coat of Elky Pro® AthletiKote
or Elky Pro® Satin Kote is completely
applied, discard any remaining finish from
the applicator. |
